March 8, 2018

GUELPH, Ontario – A student at John F. Ross Collegiate Vocational Institute has received provincial honours for her written work.

Earlier this year, Elizabeth entered the Legislative Assembly of Ontario’s Speaker’s Award for Youth Writers contest.

The contest invites Ontario youth in grades 7 to 12 to submit an original short story or personal essay. The contest is divided into three categories: grades 7-8, grades 9-10 and grades 11-12. Youth from all over the province entered this year’s contest.

This week at a ceremony at Queen’s Park in Toronto, Elizabeth received an Honourable Mention for placing second overall in the grade 11-12 category.

As part of her award, Elizabeth’s story The Colour of Lilacs will be printed in a booklet along with all contest winners and Honourable Mention recipients. Her work is also published online on the Legislative Assembly of Ontario’s website.

Congratulations Elizabeth!
