UGDSB students headed to Queen’s Park for Legislative Page program

October 15, 2019

GUELPH, Ontario – Two students from the Upper Grand District School Board are heading to Toronto to learn more about the proceedings of the Legislative Assembly of Ontario.

Mackenzie Richer, a student at Ken Danby PS, and Neil Atkins, a student at École Arbour Vista PS, have been selected to participate in the Legislative Page program at Queen’s Park.

Their term of duty will last two weeks, starting at the end of October.

To be selected for the program, Ontario students must have a high academic average and get along well with their peers and adults. Each student submitted an application, outlining their achievements and suitability for the program.

Mackenzie Richer has been selected to participate in the Legislative Page program at Queen’s Park.

During their term of duty, the Page will serve as a messenger on the floor of the Legislative Chamber, meet key parliamentary figures and learn about Ontario’s parliamentary system of government. During a typical day, Pages arrive at Queen’s Park at 8:00 a.m., dress in their uniforms and then prepare the Legislative Chamber for the morning’s debates.  As the day progresses, Pages are involved in a number of activities including delivering messages and water for the MPPs in the Chamber, taking classes in legislative process and mathematics, and meeting with key legislative players such as the party leaders and the Speaker of the House.

Congratulations on this accomplishment Mackenzie and Neil!
