KENILWORTH, Ontario – Students, staff and community members in Kenilworth came together last week at Kenilworth Public School to help a student.

On Wednesday, a young student lost his cochlear implant in the school yard and was unable to find it. Students and staff spent time looking on Thursday in the yard and did not have any luck finding the device.

During Thursday night’s Parent Council meeting, it was decided that the school would send out an invitation to the parent community asking parents to join them in a search on Friday. Using social media, the word about this search was promoted throughout the community.

On Friday afternoon, more than 50 community members arrived at the school to help with the search. Volunteers included fire fighters, parents, town workers, UGDSB Trustee Robin Ross, teachers, family members and friends.

Within 15 minutes the cochlear implant was found by community member Trevor Reid. Despite being buried in the snow for a couple of days, once the battery warmed up, the implant worked.
