Laurelwoods Elementary School showcases strong female role models
March 7, 2019
ORANGEVILLE, Ontario – Laurelwoods Elementary School is celebrating International Women’s Day by showcasing the strength (and super powers!) of the school’s female staff and volunteers.
The Laurelwoods ES Equity Team created a bulletin board to highlight the school’s strong female role models.
The initiative ties into other activities they have been doing this month, including their “We Read Together” initiative, which has teaching staff swap classrooms to read books and have conversations with students on specific themes.
International Women’s Day is Friday March 8. It is an annual day to celebrate the achievements of women worldwide, while making a call to action for gender parity. The first IWD was held in 1911.
This year’s IWD theme is #BalanceforBetter, highlighting the importance of building a gender-balanced world. The campaign runs all year, with organizers stressing that the work doesn’t end on IWD.
“Balance is not a women’s issue, it’s a business issue,” said campaign representatives. “Gender balance is essential for economies and communities to thrive.”
