Maryborough PS students “Shop with a Cop” for local food bank

December 14, 2017

MOOREFIELD, Ontario – Grade 6 students at Maryborough Public School had the opportunity to give to the local food bank in a unique way on December 14 during their “Shop with a Cop” event.

Over the last several weeks, the grade 6 teacher at the school raised money for the class to go shopping at the Drayton Foodland to purchase items for the food bank. Students had a unique shopping experience by being grouped with local police officers and fire fighters while they shopped.

The grade 6 students were picked up at the school, where they rode to Drayton in style in either a fire truck or police car. As an added bonus, for the drive to Drayton, the lights and sirens were on.

Once students arrived at the grocery store, each group was given $100 to shop with the adults for the food bank.

At the end of the shop, police blocked off the street and students ran down the street with their grocery carts to the local church where they dropped off their items for the food bank.

Students were escorted back to the school at the end of their shopping trip with lights and sirens flashing.
