Mitchell Woods PS adapt annual winter fundraiser

December 9, 2020

GUELPH, Ontario – Every year, the Mitchell Woods Public School Student Council organizes a food and clothing drive for the West Willow Village Neighbourhood Group.

This year the fundraiser needed to be adapted to meet COVID-19 restrictions. Unable to collect food or clothing items in the school, the Student Council decided to brainstorm some ideas that they would be able to do and still contribute to the neighbourhood group.

After a brainstorming session, the Student Council decided to try and safely raise monetary donations using the School Cash online system. Families could donate any dollar value, which would then go toward food hampers or the Adopt a Child Campaign run by the West Willow Village Neighbourhood Group.

The Student Council generated interest in this initiative by making daily announcements in the school, sending home flyers with each student and sharing information through student Google Classrooms.

After the two-week campaign, the Mitchell Woods PS Student Council was able to donate $665 to the West Willow Village Neighbourhood Group.
