Primrose ES students share the love through ‘love tree’

MULMER, Ontario – Kindergarten students at Primrose Elementary School have been busy spreading the love through a project at the school.
Students in Ms. Little and Ms. Battistel’s class were learning about love, empathy and kindness earlier this year. As part of this learning, the class selected a number of books that talked about friendship and empathy and read them.
One of the stories that was chosen was a book called Love, Z by Jessie Sima. This story is about a young robot who finds a letter in a bottle that washed up on shore and all this letter says is “love, Beatrice.” The robot, Z, doesn’t know what love means, so he goes on a journey of discovery and meets a number of different characters who share what love means to them.
Taking inspiration from the story, the class made a book walk in the hall and at the end of the book walk on the classroom bulletin board, the class constructed a love tree. This love tree invited students and staff throughout the school to share their ideas about what love means to them.
Students wrote things like, “Love is about helping others and being kind,” “friends,” “love is sticking by someone when times are tough,” “Love is Mom and friendship,” and many more.
The love tree is still up at the school to encourage everyone to participate.
