Rickson Ridge PS students plug in for the Hour of Code
December 7, 2017
GUELPH, Ontario – During Computer Science Education Week, Rickson Ridge Public School was busy participating in coding activities throughout the entire week making sure that every grade became involved, including the kindergarten students.
This was the third year that Rickson Ridge celebrated the Hour of Code as an entire school, with classes participating in coding activities in the library learning commons, math classes and other classes throughout the day.
To help kindergarten students get a taste of coding, they were partnered with their weekly “Tech Buddy” in a junior class and enjoyed coding activities together.
Most of the coding activities that students focused on were provided by the Hour of Code website; however, students were also able to experiment with robotics. The kindergarten students and their tech buddies had the chance to code “beebots” along with the grade 1 students. Grade 1 students also had the chance to work on some coding activities that were unplugged.
Some of the junior and intermediate students at Rickson Ridge launched a Coding Club, which will allow students to try out Dash and Dot coding robots, Ozobots and continue to learn through all of the Hour of Code online activities all year.
