Salem PS raises money for Habitat for Humanity through student contest
May 22, 2018
SALEM, Ontario – Last week, students at Salem Public School received recognition for participating in the Genworth Meaning of Home contest in the fall.
The contest invites Canadian students in grades 4-6 to submit an essay about what home means to them. For every submission Genworth receives, they donate $10 to Habitat for Humanity. The winner of the contest receives a $50,000 grant for the Habitat for Humanity build of their choice.
This year Salem PS had so many submissions to the contest that $330 was donated to Habitat for Humanity: Wellington, Dufferin, Guelph on behalf of the school.
Across Wellington and Dufferin counties, participating schools raised at total of $5,240 through the contest. Students at Salem PS that participated in the contest received a Certificate of Appreciation from Habitat for Humanity at a small presentation held in their classroom on May 18.
Habitat for Humanity: Wellington, Dufferin, Guelph thanked Salem PS for their participation in the contest, with a special thank you to Mrs. Gossling-Spears, Ms. Jeppsen and Mrs. Campbell for their support of this project. All proceeds go toward building safe, decent, affordable homes for families in our district.
