Spring cleaning? CWDHS Aboriginal Club collecting donations for northern communities

For Immediate Release
March 2, 2016

GUELPH, Ontario – Are you starting to think about spring cleaning? Centre Wellington District High School in Fergus is collecting items for a spring donation drive.

All year round, CWDHS’ Aboriginal Club collects clothing and non-perishable items to ship to isolated First Nations and Inuit communities in Northern Ontario, Quebec and Nunavut.

The club makes shipments three times a year, in partnership with the Elora Pentacostal Church, St. Paul’s Anglican Church in Norval and the Inuit Outreach Project.

Currently in its fifth year, the outreach project aims to help remote communities in northern Canada, where the cost of living is very high. Compared to the rest of Canada, these communities often face high poverty rates, limited employment opportunities and inadequate housing conditions.

For their June shipment, the Aboriginal Club is looking for clothing, shoes and toys, as well as diapers and feminine hygiene products. As a general rule for what items to donate, clothing should be in good enough condition that you would still be able to wear it.

If you are interested in donating to the CW Aboriginal Club, please contact Jack Frimeth at CWDHS, by email at [email protected] or call (519) 212-3817.
