Stay Safe Online — October is Cyber Awareness Month

October 5, 2021

GUELPH, Ontario — Students over the last 20 years have become used to living in the digital era. They use it for recreation, education and as a way to stay connected with their peers.

October marks Cyber Awareness Month. For the second year, the Upper Grand District School Board is participating in the ECNO Cyber Awareness Month campaign. This campaign is to teach students and guardians that with technology being such a big part of our daily lives there are many resources and tips to help protect one’s privacy and stay safer and more secure online.

Each week the Cyber Awareness Month campaign will have a different theme. Week one will cover taking stock of your user account and devices in order to better protect them. Week two will focus on the importance of having secure wifi and network connections. Week three will tackle taking care of the personal information one shares online, and finally week four will cover overall mindfulness of your online presence and digital footprint. Information will be shared with schools and staff each week of the campaign.

For tips and resources related to Cyber Awareness, you can follow the ECNO campaign on Twitter

Just as we lock our doors and secure our homes, visit the doctor to support our physical and emotional health, and find peace in mindfulness to quiet our busy minds, caring for our online presence and digital footprint is just as important.
