Students at Centre Wellington DHS develop new digital skills

December 8, 2021

GUELPH, Ontario – Grade 11 and 12 students at Centre Wellington DHS have developed a new skill: photography.

Students in Jose Martinez’s Media Arts class have just completed their digital photography portfolio. Their assignment? Pick a theme and shoot.

Students used a variety of lenses, like portrait, telephoto and macro to complete their photographs. Some students experimented with light painting, some focused on a principle of composition such as repetition, and many decided to do close up photographs.

Maia, a grade 12 student, said that she enjoyed the process and enjoyed taking macro photographs of her dog and of nature. “It was challenging because subjects like my dog were moving a lot but I did happen to get a few good photos.  I did some enhancement on the images in Photoshop by adjusting the contrast and exposure of most of my images.”

Through the support of the Arts and Culture Specialist High Skills Major program (SHSM), many of the students were able to use new macro lenses to take some extreme close up shots for their digital portfolios.
