Students commit to environmental action projects at EcoLeague Youth Forum
October 17, 2018
GUELPH, Ontario – Some of Upper Grand’s most eco-conscious kids are feeling energized after attending an annual environmental forum.
The EcoLeague Youth Forum, held on Wednesday in Milton, invites elementary students to attend a full day of workshops and hands-on activities focused on environmental sustainability and action.
This year, 15 UGDSB teams, consisting of 1 teacher and five grade 5-8 students each, attended the event hosted by Learning for a Sustainable Future and 3M Canada.
Students participated in workshops, which introduced local sustainability issues, provided hands-on activities, allowed students to build skills in design thinking, project management and budgeting, and discussed making connections with local organizations and businesses.
Teachers received professional development focused on supporting student action and connecting their environmental issues to curriculum.
At the end of the forum, teams committed to taking on an action project, something that will have a positive impact in their school or community.
