March 5, 2018

FERGUS, Ontario – Students from Peel District School Board’s Brampton Centennial Secondary School (BCSS) visited Centre Wellington District High School on February 28 for a showcase on Black History Month.

The students from BCSS presented Black History Through the Decades to students at CWDHS. During the presentation, BCSS students educated CWDHS youth about the struggles of Black people and also displayed the pride they feel about having come so far.

BCSS students created and performed their own spoken word poetry, demonstrated dances from across the Caribbean and various African countries, and sang and signed songs of hope and redemption.

CWDHS students cheered and whistled when BCSS finished their step routine. Students learned about how step was used in the past by slaves to communicate in secret.

Students and staff at CWDHS thought the whole presentation was bold and uplifting, students remained engaged and entertained throughout the event.

Centre Wellington DHS would like to thank Brampton Centennial SS for bringing Black History and culture to life.
