Two UGDSB students win prestigious music scholarships

GUELPH, Ontario – Two Upper Grand District School Board students have recently won music scholarships to aid them in their post-secondary studies.
Recent Guelph Collegiate Vocational Institute graduate Bridget W. was named the recipient of the 2021 MusicFest Canada National Art Centre Orchestra Outstanding String Player scholarship.
This scholarship of $1,000 is granted to one Canadian student each year who has proven to be an outstanding individual string player.
Bridget will be attending York University next year to study Biology.
Jakob D. is a grade 12 student at Centennial Collegiate Vocational Institute and is in the Honour Jazz Band at the school.
He was recently awarded the Lou Williamson Outstanding Jazz Woodwind Player scholarship.
This scholarship of $1,000 is given to one Canadian student each year in memory of Louis Rossi Williamson and is awarded to an individual who shows outstanding work as a jazz woodwind player at the MusicFest Canada National Competition.
Jakob will be attending the University of Toronto next year where he will study Jazz Music Performance.
