UGDSB and Dufferin County celebrate official opening of Shelburne childcare centre

For Immediate Release
September 25, 2018

SHELBURNE, Ontario – Dufferin County Children Services and the Upper Grand District School Board are thrilled to announce the opening of a new childcare facility in Shelburne.

On October 4, 2018, officials from the school board and the county will be at Centennial Hylands Child Care to celebrate the official opening of the centre, located on the Centennial Hylands Elementary School property.

In 2015, the Ministry of Education announced that the UGDSB would receive more than $2 million in funding to create 73 childcare spaces at Centennial Hylands Elementary School.

The new facility, located next to the elementary school, opened its doors on September 4. The centre is operated by the YMCA of Greater Toronto and accommodates infants, toddlers and preschool-aged children.

The project was made possible by the Ministry’s Child Care Capital funding program. The school board and county worked collaboratively, making a joint submission to open a new facility in Shelburne where there was a need for licensed childcare spaces.

“These much needed childcare spaces in Shelburne are a direct result of successful joint planning between the UGDSB and the County of Dufferin. Our partnership continues to grow as we look to the future and work to meet the needs of children and families in all of our communities,” said Lori-Jane Del Medico, the Consolidated Municipal Service Manager at the County of Dufferin.

“Child care is becoming an increasingly integrated system. We were pleased to work together with the County to collectively drive our vision forward for the children and families we serve,” said Linda Busuttil, Chair of the UGDSB.

“The Shelburne community is growing and we are so fortunate to have this opportunity to help meet the needs of our families and for the collaboration with our partners at the County,” said Lynn Topping, UGDSB Trustee for the Town of Shelburne.

On October 4, the County of Dufferin and UGDSB are hosting a ribbon cutting ceremony. Representatives from the school board, county and YMCA will be in attendance to celebrate the new childcare spaces in the Shelburne community.
