May 18, 2018

GUELPH, Ontario – Upper Grand District School Board schools have excelled at MusicFest Canada’s National competition.

The competition brings together thousands of students and staff from across Canada for a week of musical performances. Every year, a different city hosts the festival, with this year’s festival hosted in Toronto from May 14 to 19.

A number of musical ensembles from the UGDSB attended the nationals, one group from Centennial CVI and four groups from Guelph CVI.

After amazing performances, guest adjudications and clinics, the groups are coming home with medals from the national competition.

Winning national silver medals were Centennial CVI’s Senior Symphonic Winds Band, GCVI’s Jr. Symphonic Band, GCVI’s Stage Band, and GCVI’s Chamber Choir. GCVI’s Sr. Symphonic Band won a bronze medal.

The goal of MusicFest Canada is to evaluate the musical achievements of Canadian music students. The annual competition offers students a unique way to learn and showcase their talent.

Congratulations to all the performers and their teachers for another amazing showing at the nationals!
