UGDSB schools gearing up for Bullying Awareness and Prevention Week

November 15, 2018

GUELPH, Ontario – November 18-24, 2018, is Bullying Awareness and Prevention Week in Ontario.

Schools in the Upper Grand District School Board have numerous engaging and thought-provoking activities planned to help raise awareness about bullying and its effect on students.

UGDSB Child and Youth Counsellors play a key role in developing and delivering the programs that will run in each school.

Classroom and school-wide activities include slogan contests, teacher swaps, having older students read to younger students and creative activities that show the damaging effect bullying can have. There will also be special guest presenters and assemblies.

Bullying is defined as “a form of repeated, persistent and aggressive behaviour directed at an individual or individuals that is intended to cause (or should be known to cause) fear and distress and/or harm to another person’s body, feelings, self-esteem or reputation.” (Ontario’s Ministry of Education)

UGDSB staff will take time during Bullying Awareness and Prevention Week to teach students about the different forms bullying can take and continue to promote positive school climates that support student learning and well-being.
