UGDSB secondary school students explore in-demand jobs at manufacturing fair

November 14, 2018

CAMBRIDGE, Ontario – More than 100 secondary students from four Upper Grand DSB schools attended a workshop and job fair at Mazak Training Facility in Cambridge on November 12.

Mazak is one of the world leaders in the manufacturing industry, focusing on manufacturing of advanced technology solutions that include multi-tasking, HYBRID multi-tasking, 5-axis, milling, turning, CNC controls and automation.

During the day, students from Erin District HS, Norwell District SS, Guelph CVI and John F. Ross CVI rotated between the training centre, where they had the chance to see cutting technology machines and robots, to presentations about the industry and hearing about jobs available.

The students who attended the fair are considering a career in manufacturing, an industry that is eagerly making new hires all year long.

The students in attendance heard first-hand accounts from manufacturing professionals and companies about the high demand to fill manufacturing jobs in Canada. Hearing these first-hand accounts left students realizing the value of participating in co-op programs and the Ontario Youth Apprenticeship Program at the secondary level.

For more information about taking co-op in secondary school, please speak to your school’s co-op department or visit the UGDSB Co-op or UGDSB OYAP website.
