UGDSB students bundled up for a snowy Winter Walk Day

February 7, 2018

GUELPH, Ontario – Upper Grand DSB students bundled up and braved the snowy weather on February 7 for Winter Walk Day.

Many UGDSB schools held events that got the entire school out walking during the day. Some UGDSB schools pledged to walk to school or walk some of the way to school if distance was an issue.

F.A. Hamilton Public School students gathered at the school in the morning to participate in Winter Walk Day by hiking through a snow-covered park near the school.

At Westwood Public School, Ms. McKee’s grade 4 students, along with their buddies in SK, took a winter walk through a nearby forest to get moving and explore the natural landscape. The grade 4s are often led on walks through the forest, to reconnect with nature and make real-life connections to the curriculum in areas such as natural habitats and the environment.

The idea of Winter Walk Day is to get students out walking (or wheeling) to school because it is fun, healthy and environmentally friendly. Winter Walk Day also helps create community connections and builds on school curriculum.
