UGDSB teacher named a fellow at Qudwa 2017 Global Teachers’ Forum

October 13, 2017

MOUNT FOREST, Ontario – Wellington Heights Secondary School teacher Glenn Wagner recently returned from Abu Dhabi where he was named a fellow at the Qudwa 2017 Global Teachers’ Forum.

Qudwa is a forum made of teachers throughout the world that “recognises education as the single greatest contributor to the success, progress, peace and happiness of all nations.”

Each year, the forum welcomes more than 800 global educators, experts and government ministers from around the world. This year, Wellington Heights SS teacher, Glenn Wagner was invited to attend.

Wagner explained that at the two-day conference guests heard from amazing teachers from around the world on how they transformed education in their classrooms and districts. Four other Canadians were present who, like Wagner, were Top 50 finalists for the Global Teacher Prize.

Wagner participated in the conference by speaking on “Innovations in Teaching – Curbing the Use of Electronics.” Teachers discussed ways to enhance their classroom practice with electronics (e.g. smartphones) while deciding how students can be more respectful when not in use in the classroom.

Finally, the Upper Grand DSB teacher was honoured and humbled at the end of the conference by being only one of 50 teachers selected to be ‘Qudwa Fellow,’ which recognized participation at the conference beyond expectations set out by the organizers. This honour also means that he will be invited to attend next year’s conference and participate in its planning.

Wagner said he was proud to represent Canada but just as proud to represent Upper Grand, adding that he will bring back what he has learned not only to the classroom but also to the teachers of the UGDSB who want nothing but the best for their students.

The Upper Grand DSB wants to congratulate Glenn on this achievement!
