Upper Grand schools celebrate equity and inclusion during Education Week 2018
For Immediate Release
April 23, 2018
GUELPH, Ontario – Schools across the Upper Grand District School Board will showcase the work they are doing in equity and inclusion this spring.
The Ministry of Education has designated the week of May 7 to May 11 as Education Week – a time to “celebrate our accomplishments and reflect on new and exciting challenges ahead.” In the UGDSB, this week has been extended from mid-April to mid-May to allow schools the flexibility to plan events and activities to encourage the participation of as many parents/guardians, staff, students and community members as possible.
This year’s theme is “Achieving Excellence through Equity and Inclusion/Atteignons l’excellence par l’équité et l’inclusion.”
Education Week in the UGDSB will officially open on Monday May 7 at Paisley Road Public School, 406 Paisley Road, Guelph.
The evening will begin at 6 p.m. with a presentation and meet-and-greet of the board’s First Nation, Métis, Inuit Education Advisory Committee, a wonderful opportunity to meet our community partners who are part of this committee. At 7 p.m., we will celebrate the official opening of Education Week.
Symbolizing the ongoing cooperation between the public and separate school boards, the Upper Grand District School Board and the Wellington Catholic District School Board are once again producing bookmarks decorated by elementary students. The bookmarks will be placed in libraries across the district for distribution.
During the month-long Education Week celebrations, both parents/guardians and the general public have many opportunities to witness the quality of work produced by students. There are a host of activities that showcase the excellence in schools, including open houses, science fairs, exhibits of literary and artistic work, band and choir concerts, and operettas.
The UGDSB encourages everyone to take a few minutes and visit a neighbourhood school to observe the many accomplishments of students and staff. Check the website or contact your local school for more details …and come celebrate Education Week!
