Victory PS students unleash their creative side through school-wide dance program
April 9, 2018
GUELPH, Ontario – There’s been a whole lot of moving and shaking at Victory Public School.
Over a two-week period, every class in the school has been learning to dance, through the dancED Movement Project.
Andrea Gregorio and Krista Deady started the dancED Movement Project in 2008 with the goal of giving students, regardless of ability or experience, the chance to unleash their creative potential through dance.
They were at Victory PS from March 26 to April 6, teaching the students different styles of dance. Every class worked with Andrea and Krista six times in 30-minute sessions. They learned about musical theatre and practiced performances from hit Broadway musicals including Mamma Mia! Wicked, Matilda the Musical, Grease, Annie, Hairspray, Lion King the Musical, and West Side Story.
On Friday afternoon, classes had one final rehearsal at the school, where they performed for their peers and had an opportunity to showcase their hard work.
All of that practice led up to Friday evening, when the whole school performed for parents/guardians and the school community at the E.L. Fox Auditorium at John F. Ross CVI.
School staff even joined in with a surprise performance from Rock of Ages.

This is the second year the dancED Movement Project has been at Victory PS. Last year, the school was introduced to the program through hip hop dance, which Andrea and Krista said was a great introduction into their style of dance instruction.
