ORANGEVILLE, ON — Students and staff at Westside Secondary School raised over $15,000 with their annual Pink Day fundraiser in support of Breast Cancer Canada – a nearly 40 per cent increase from the $11,000 raised last year.
Westside’s Pink Day fundraiser began back in 2004 when a staff member had been diagnosed with breast cancer.
“Over the years staff and the Westside community have had other staff and families affected by the disease, resulting in a continued support of raising funds for research and hope,” said Pink Day Chair, Christine Kirkland.
Pink Day at Westside has evolved into their largest spirit day of the year. Students and staff can engage through wearing pink and participating in fundraising activities and families are invited to the school’s community pancake breakfast.
“We hope that students feel a sense of purpose and that they can be agents of change through supporting events like Pink Day. We hope that they leave Pink Day feeling like they were part of creating hope,” said Kirkland.
