WHSS set to raise money for Warm Winter Wishes

October 19, 2017

MOUNT FOREST, Ontario – Wellington Heights Secondary School Grade 12 Business Leadership class, along with teacher Barb Cowen, are hosting their Warm Winter Wishes fundraiser again this year.

According to the group, “Warm Winter Wishes is dedicated to assisting children and their families in our community. We will work within our community to link those in need of receiving to those with the ability to give. We will put smiles on people’s faces and warmth in their hearts.”

The Warm Winter Wishes initiative started in 2002 when the business leadership class (in the previous Mount Forest District High School), formed a non-profit group called Warm Winter Wishes. These students put their business knowledge to the test as they planned, organized, and controlled the fundraising activities.

For the last 15 years, Warm Winter Wishes has grown to support families in and outside of the Mount Forest area. In 2016, the students involved in the program raised more than $40,000 for families in need in the community, adding to the over $300,000 raised through the program in the last 15 years.

Students run Warm Winter Wishes, together they brainstorm fundraising activities and put them into action. All aspects of the program are run by students, including business, marketing, sales, finance, public relations, purchasing and more.

The campaign is set to kick off on November 15 and run for four weeks until the winter break.

The work done by these students is remarkable and truly makes a difference in the lives of those in the community.
