With the input of students and caregivers from our school community, the Greening Committee has been working on ideas and plans to further increase the greening and growing school yard area at Central. Over a year ago, Central Public School received a grant from the World Wildlife Fund to establish an Edible Forest Garden. This grant was a catalyst for the creation of a larger plan that includes several Edible Forest Gardens that create wildlife habitat, offer food for people, and demonstrate the complexity of forest succession.
Exploration, play, growing and learning will be supported through a variety of features including raised garden beds, moveable “trunk-like” planters, armourstone seating and native shade trees for an outdoor classroom, trellises designed for growing food and displaying art, a play mound with thyme etc. and fallen logs and boulders for recreation and seating.
