CALLIGRAPHY – GOTHICIZED ITALIC

This calligraphic hand is a perfect combination of the gothic blackletter and italic. It is a wonderful variation that brings a bit of life to the rigid lines of the blackletter. It may well become your favourite “go to” hand. Registrants should already have some calligraphic experience. You should have taken the Beginner Blackletter and Italic courses before you embark on the Gothicized Italic journey. You may continue with your 3.8mm Pilot Parallel Pen or a dip pen with Speedball C2 nib and ink. Worksheets and paper will be supplied for the first class, and we will be discussing different paper options that work with our ink. Homework will be assigned weekly for the benefit of practice only. This course includes instruction, demonstrations and fun calligraphic projects, with discussion around tools and best practices. Supply List: 3.8mm Pilot Parallel Pen (green cap) or dip pen, C2 nib & ink. Also please bring a mechanical pencil & ruler. Supply Fee of $10 is payable to the instructor at the first class for worksheets, handouts and projects. Additional pens can be purchased from the instructor at the first class.

Roxana Bahrami is a self-taught artist. She has a Master’s degree in Environmental Science from the University of Guelph and has been designing and creating jewellery pieces in her free time for the past ten years. She has worked with different media (fabric, wood and metal) and used to run her own Etsy jewellery shop. She was introduced to dot painting a few years ago and found it really relaxing and fun!

Mandala painting is the art of using dots to create intricate geometric compositions. The base is a circle, known as the mandala, which represents the whole universe. Mandala-making is relaxing. Some believe that it is therapeutic and calming. The design of mandalas is supposed to be visually and aesthetically pleasing, so as to absorb the mind in such a way that negative thoughts are prevented from going through the mind. During this workshop, you will be introduced to various techniques and use different patterns and colours in your painting. You are encouraged to use your own imagination to customize your artwork by choosing your colour scheme and adding intricate details. No experience in drawing or painting is needed. You will be painting a canvas in this workshop. You just need to bring four acrylic paints in your preferred colors (one must be white) and all other supplies will be provided.

This course covers the fundamentals of drawing through still life, portrait and life drawing. OIL PAINTING – BEGINNER

In this introductory course you will learn about colour mixing, the creation of depth and three-dimensional effects using oil paints. Students create their paintings using subject matter of their choice. Drawing skills are not a prerequisite. Supplies are included in the course cost. CROCHET – BEGINNER BASICS

HAND EMBROIDERY 101

This beginners workshop will give students a starter kit of what is needed to make hand embroidery. They will be guided through the process of transferring a pattern on to fabric. The sampler pattern (created by the instructor), will teach students several types of stitches and how to use them to achieve the desired look of their embroidered image. The 3-hour workshop will give students time to complete a project and the confidence to do their own hand embroidery project. Embroidery is a versatile skill and the possibilities are endless! Embroidery hoop, needles, thread snippers, transfer markers, floss and fabric will all be supplied; however, feel free to bring your own embroidery floss, fabric, or pattern. A $45 material fee is payable to the instructor.

KNITTING – THE BASICS

Knitting is enjoying a comeback. Join us as we learn the basic knitting techniques, how to cast on/cast off, increase and decrease and read a simple knitting pattern.
