UKULELE FOR BEGINNERS
This course is designed for those who have never played a ukulele (or perhaps any stringed instrument) and would love to learn how to hold, tune, and play the ukulele. Basic theory, such as rhythmic values (whole, half, quarter, eighth notes) and time signatures will be introduced. We will be using the James Hill Ukulele Book One and you will learn how to read notes. Please bring your own ukulele, tuner, and $20.00 for the course book (payable to the instructor on the first night).

UKULELE FOR BEGINNERS PART II
This course is designed for those who have completed the Ukulele for Beginners course. You will continue to learn melody and harmony as the class divides into two and three parts. We will also begin to learn different strumming patterns in preparation for strumming chords. By the end of the course you should be able to play several different basic strumming styles, read, and understand ukulele chord charts. Please bring your own ukulele and tuner.

THREE NIGHTS AT THE OPERA
Experience the excitement of opera! Each evening is dedicated to an act-by-act exploration of a single opera using videos, text, and audio plus lively anecdotes about the opera’s origins, productions, and performers. Operas for 2018-19 will be Mozart’s Cosi fan Tutte; Carmen, by Bizet, and Verdi’s Otello, which are being performed in our region this season.

This course will explore the world of opera, a thrilling art form that combines music, text, drama and design. There will be frequent audio examples, hand-outs, and information about regional performances and attending opera on a budget.
