Learn more about our instructor: Barb Robbins. Barb was introduced to Zentangle® in a therapeutic environment, and developed a passion for the mind calming strokes of the tangles. After struggling with depression and anxiety following the death of her only child in 2008, through Zentangle® Barb learned to trust and believe in herself again. She became a Certified Zentangle® teacher in June 2017, and truly believes in the power of Zentangle® to calm a busy mind, to instill self-confidence and pride in oneself.
ZENTANGLE® – BASIC
Zentangle® is a mindfulness based drawing method that promotes mental well-being. Zentangle® has been documented to aid in the reduction of stress and anxiety, can increase self-esteem and self-confidence, and can be easily learned by anyone who can write their own name! The Zentangle Method® is an easy-to-learn, relaxing, and fun way to create beautiful images by drawing structured patterns. You don’t need to be an artist, you don’t need to be able to draw. Sit back, free your mind of the clutter of the day and breathe! Allow yourself to be filled with gratitude, remind yourself that all we have to be right now is to be present. During this basic class, participants will learn four ‘tangles’ and will create a Zentangle tile that you will keep. The two hour class includes all supplies, including a mini-kit that you will take home with you so that you can continue your Zentangle® journey. Course Instructor is a Certified Zentangle Teacher (CZT®).

HEART SMART STRESS MANAGEMENT
A truly heart healthy lifestyle is more than exercise and diet. The third and most important key (according to cardiologists Eliot, Bhat, Ornish and others) is stress management. Yet this component is the most neglected! This presentation outlines the practical strategies that really relax the cardiovascular system, plus we’ll use biofeedback to literally see your ability to generate a healthy heart rhythm and relax your blood vessels – the things that decrease your risk. This presentation is especially helpful for those with high blood pressure, diabetes, anxiety, depression, a tendency to hold onto anger, or who have a family history of heart attack or stroke.

SOMATIC EDUCATION: THE MYTH OF AGING SERIES
When our bodies start to feel stiff, sore or tired, we often say, “we’re getting old”. But is that really the problem? Thomas Hanna’s approach to sensory re-education proves that much of the physical decline associated with aging is not inevitable but avoidable. This series will teach you how to take back conscious control of your nervous system and muscles, reversing the physical effects of aging – or preventing them before they begin. Developing a daily practice with these movements will keep you feeling more youthful and enable you to enjoy the activities you love for longer.

Learn more about our instructor: Monique ten Kortenaar. Discovering the Mitzvah Technique more than 20 years ago has changed Monique ten Kortenaar’s life, both physically and professionally. For the past 8 years she has been working as a Mitzvah Technique teacher, and she continues to be amazed by the human body’s ability to move towards greater health and well-being when given a little help.
THE MITZVAH TECHNIQUE
The Mitzvah Technique is a unique way to release muscle tension and muscle tension patterns from one’s body. This allows the muscles to elongate, it increases one’s flexibility and ease of movement, and will help to reduce stress and pain. There are three aspects to the Mitzvah Technique: gentle manipulation of a person’s limbs, head, neck and spine by a Mitzvah Technique teacher, gentle stretching exercises, and the Mitzvah Technique chair exercise. The Mitzvah Technique chair exercise is a way to sit down on and stand up from a chair, that stretches all muscles. It helps develop better body awareness, as well as improved posture, and it can easily be incorporated into one’s daily routine. Floors mats will be provided.

WORKING WITH ESSENTIAL OILS: AROMATHERAPY FOR BEGINNERS
Do you have a ‘nice collection’ of essential oils at home, but that’s all it is, a ‘nice collection’ because you aren’t really sure how to best use them, or how to make better use of them? In other words, you don’t use them for any purpose other then as ‘perfume’ and you don’t use them as much as you’d like, or should! Or maybe you are intrigued by this thing called ‘aromatherapy’ and want to learn more? Well then this is the perfect class for you! Here is where you get to ask the questions you’ve always wanted to ask (and maybe hear some questions that you didn’t know you should be asking about essential oils!). A clinical aromatherapist, certified and trained with the Canadian Federation of Aromatherapists is here to answer and help you explore the multifaceted world of essential oils. In this workshop, you will learn how to evaluate essential oil quality and what to look for on the label, different methods of use (e.g. diffusing, topical use, bath salts), the basics of blending, why essential oils should not be ingested, and why blending is necessary when using essential oils on your skin. There will be a lot of ‘sniff testing’ and a hands-on blending portion to this class. All supplies included.
