Number Talks, Terry Fox Run, Orange Shirt Day, and Spirit Wear

Posted October 2, 2017

Happy Friday!

Staff engaged in professional learning and health and safety training today. We specifically talked about Number Talks. Number Talks are five- to fifteen-minute classroom conversations about computation problems that are solved mentally to build number sense skills. We talked about: what a classroom talk is, how to follow students’ thinking and pose the right questions to build understanding, how to prepare for and design purposeful number talks, and how to develop grade-level-specific strategies for the operations of addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.

Thank you to all children and parents who contributed to our Toonie for Terry campaign. Children ran and continued Terry’s legacy on Thursday afternoon. Please checkout our school website and/or UGDSB school app for pictures of the event.

On Monday, we will be recognizing Orange Shirt Day. Please see our previous post on our school website and/ or UGDSB app about Orange shirt day for details.

We are excited to be offering spirit wear at CMES this year. We have a lot of different options for families to purchase and look forward to seeing the Cobra logo throughout the school and community, especially on our Cobra Spirit Days! All proceeds from our spirit wear sales will be going back into our school community as we look forward to offering more technology and band equipment for our students. Orders will be available approximately three weeks following the order closing date posted on School Cash Online. Thank you for all of your support.

Have a fantastic weekend!
