Child Abuse Prevention Month

Wear purple on Tuesday. October is Child Abuse Prevention month in Canada. On Tuesday, October 24, 2017 many boards of education and schools across Ontario will participate in Dress Purple Day as a way of collectively speaking up and sharing the message that child abuse and neglect can be prevented and that help is available. This year for Dress Purple Day the Upper Grand District School Board is partnering with Family & Children’s Services of Guelph and Wellington County, and Dufferin Child and Family Services, who are key partners in keeping children and youth safe.

Just a reminder that our picture retake day will be on Wednesday, October 25th. Class pictures for grades 4 to 6 will be taken and individual retake shots will also be taken for those who have expressed an interest.

Mark your calendars!  The UGDSB Parent Involvement Committee invites you to join them for an informative evening for parents and caregivers.  Dr. Laura Markham will be speaking on the topic “How to Get Your Child Cooperating Without Yelling, Threats or Punishment.”  Learn some practical, everyday strategies to help you raise a self-disciplined child who WANTS to cooperate!

There are two locations for your convenience:

Centennial CVI, Guelph on Wednesday, November 8th

Westside SS, Orangeville on Thursday, November 9th

Both evenings begin at 6:15 PM with information booths and light refreshments followed by Dr. Markham’s talk and opportunity for questions from 6:45 – 8:45 PM.

This is a free event, but you do need to register.  Go to ugdsb.ca/pic to get tickets. More information can be found on the following link:  PIC-event-nov2017-final

Just a reminder that spirit wear is available for purchase as well. More information can be found at:
