Welcome Back!

Posted September 3, 2018

Hello to our CMES Families,

Welcome back to the 2018 – 2019 school year! We hope you had a restful and fun holiday.  A special welcome goes out to our new families joining our CMES community.

On the first day of school, we ask that students gather at the back of the school. Students, look for your grade sign posted on the walls of the school. Teachers will be in orange vests, holding grade signs as well. Students should go to the grade sign they are in and teachers will call out names of who is in each class. When the entry bell goes, students will head in the assigned entry/exit door. New students not registered, should go to the Library Learning Commons. If it rains, the same procedure is in place, but will happen in the gym. Kindergarten students will meet in the front yard. If it rains they will go directly to their assigned classroom.

Classroom reorganization, may happen and is prompted by Ministry-mandated caps on primary class size. Student placements in all classes are tentative during the first two weeks of school. To meet Ministry guidelines pertaining to fixed class sizes. All schools in the UGDSB will be reviewed by a central staffing committee and decisions regarding specific class sizes will be made. Please be prepared for changes to be made to your child’s placement if CMES must reorganize. We are not able to take parent requests for placement.  For more information, please see page 8 of our CMES Newsletter.

CMES Parking update, we have an increase in staff due to our growing student population. Our parking lot in front of the school is for staff (UGDSB Staff, including YMCA Staff), special needs parking, and emergency vehicles. We have a Kiss and Ride at the front Kindie Yard for a quick drop off or quick pick up only, this is a NO PARKING ZONE. We ask that parents/guardians, and visitors to CMES, use the North parking lot (located to the right side of the school) if you are visiting the school or if you feel more time is required for your child to enter/exit the car. The South side of CMES has an inlet with a large number of parking spots next to the sidewalk. A short walk to the crossing guard (by College Ave.) who will assist students to cross safely to CMES.  For the safety of our students, we are trying to decrease the number of moving vehicles in our front parking lot. Thank you to parents, guardians, and visitors, for your cooperation.

Our staff look forward to a great year of teaching and working together with our CMES Community.

Sincerely,

Ms. Lagundzija-deFreitas and Ms. Federico (P and VP)
