From the Office……

Dear Parents & Guardians,

It is hard to believe that it is November!  It seems that the wet and colder weather is now with us.  Our students are reminded to bundle up for the change in weather.

Credit Meadows students and staff have been busy at school.  In the past months, we participated in the Terry Fox Run on September 27th.  Some of our students participated in Cross Country Running Meet.  We did well with many top finishes by our athletes.  Our soccer team won the Dufferin County Tournament.  Congratulations to our CMES Cobras!  Thank you to all of the coaches who worked with our athletes.  Volleyball for our intermediate students has started.  Many of our primary students have been sharing their beautiful voices at weekly choir time.  Our band program at CMES is up and running smoothly.  Our talented CMES Band has been working hard and will perform at our Remembrance Day Assembly.  Various clubs such as Chess Club, Adopt a Shelf, Environmental Club, and Maker Space have started as well.

Our wonderful team of educators had a productive PD Day on September 28th. The team focused on the Fundamentals of Math.  Making  sure students understand how numbers work as they progress through the grades and learning how numbers behave when operations are applied to them. Our goal is for students to develop automaticity, which is the ability to use skills or perform mathematical procedures with little or no mental effort.  One such way is continuing to focus on using Number Talks with our students.  Number Talks are short daily exercises aimed at building number sense.  This is the ability to play with numbers meaning students can visualize problem-solving, perform calculations quickly, and are flexible in their mathematical strategy.  Our CMES students who have a strong number sense solve problems in more than one way and check that their answers make sense.  During a number talk, students are thinking, asking their peers questions, and explaining their own thinking.

During the month of November, CMES will be showing our respect to our Veterans at our Remembrance Day Assembly which will be held on Friday, November 9th.

We completed our first Lock Down Drill and three required Fire Drills for the first half of this year.  Please note that during the lock down drill no will be permitted to leave the building.  Lock down drills are just one more way, along with regular fire and severe weather drills, that help us continue to ensure the safety of our students and staff.

A friendly reminder for Parents/Guardians, please check the UGDSB and our CMES website for the latest news on our Board.  We are looking forward to a productive and busy month ahead.

Ms. Lagundzija-de Freitas (P) & Ms. Federico (VP)
