Notice of cancelled and postponed school events

April 1, 2020

Dear UGDSB parents and guardians,

On Tuesday March 31, 2020, the Premier of Ontario announced that in response to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, all schools in Ontario will remain closed until at least May 1 for staff and May 4 for students. Premier Ford also said that the province is prepared to extend the school closures even further if required.

As a result, the Upper Grand District School Board has decided to cancel and postpone a number of events planned in our schools.

The following events have been cancelled:

  • All trips (day trips and overnight trips)
  • Food Days (pizza days, sub days, Lunch Lady, etc.)
  • Special Olympics Track and Field Day

Postponed:

  • Empowerment Day (postponed until Fall 2020)

We do not believe that the following events will take place this school year given school closures and the potential for ongoing social/physical distancing guidelines. These events will be re-evaluated when we have a better idea about the duration of the ongoing pandemic and guidelines provided by the Ministry of Education and Public Health:

  • Grade 6 and 8 graduations
  • Gr. 12 proms
  • High school graduations

Please know that these decisions are not taken lightly and we realize there will be a lot of disappointment. We also recognize that a lot of time, energy, thought and money goes into these events.  We do not want families to spend money for events that may not happen.

School principals will be working through the process of refunding monies paid and will be in contact with families as this process continues. Please know that this process may take some time due to school closures and we appreciate your patience.

We thank you for your understanding and hope you and your family are staying safe and healthy.

Thank you.
