This weeks email to families from EPS

Posted January 21, 2019

Hi Eramosa Families!

This week all students in grades 1 to 6 have the opportunity to participate in skating on Friday in the afternoon. All students and volunteers will need a CSA approved helmet as well as skates to go on the ice. If your child does not have a helmet please let their teacher know as we do have many helmets available for use.

PA DAY: Don’t forget that next Friday (Feb 1st) is a PA Day at the school. There will be no school for students on this day as teachers prepare Term 1 report cards.

The ERAMOSA PS/UGDSB APP is available for download and now it has an exciting new feature as Push Notifications (The red dot that appears on an app or a message on your home screen) are now available allowing families with the app to know when new information has been added to the website or if there is an important message. Also the app is handy as a one stop shop for all things going on at Eramosa like the calendar, news, bus cancellations and SchoolCash Online. If you haven’t downloaded the app yet here is the link to get you started and it’s FREE! https://launch.customschoolapp.net/uppergrand/

Last week the email system that sends out our emails was not working properly so attached below is the email from last week in case you did not receive it, our apologies! Also in the future we will be posting the weekly email on our website as well for review.

A giant THANKS goes to school council for all their hard work organizing fundraising events! The funds generated so far this year have gone directly back to the school and have supported initiatives such as math games and resources for students, gym equipment, Skills Canada competition supplies and the playground reserve fund, just to name a few. Thank you to everyone for supporting our school!

Volunteers are always welcome and needed at Eramosa PS! Examples of volunteers needed: Maybe you have an interesting job or hobby that you would want to share with a class for an hour or if you have time through the week on a regular schedule that you could come in and read with students. Any time shared is valued and appreciated! Please contact your child’s teacher or the principal if you are interested in volunteering in any way at the school.

Kindergarten registration for all children born in 2015 has begun, please click the link for more details https://www.ugdsb.ca/kindergarten/registration/

LUNCH SUPERVISORS NEEDED: If you are able to provide an hour a week to help supervise students in our school during lunch and recess please contact Mrs. Kent at the office. This is a paid position and helps to ensure the safety of our students at lunch recess time.

Attention all Kindergarten Parents: Chris Williston recorded the kindergarten performance at the Christmas Concert and he is willing to share it privately (not through social media formats) to any parent who did not get a video of their own. You can email him: [email protected] .

WE NEED YOUR EXTRA MITTS: If you are cleaning up around the house and find you have too many pairs of children’s mitts in decent condition please consider donating them to the school to help keep hands warm. Thank you!

For our full calendar and up to date information from the school, school board and connected community organizations visit our website: https://www.ugdsb.ca/eramosa/

IMPORTANT REMINDERS:

ABSENT OR PICKING UP STUDENTS: A reminder that if your child is going to be absent from school or picked up at the school by anyone but the parents/guardians a message from the parents/guardians MUST BE be shared through a phone call to the school’s office. This helps ensure the safety of each child at school.

MEDICATION – If your child needs to take medication at school (that includes: pills, liquids, puffers and any other medical support) the office MUST be notified and a form must be completed before any medication can be provided. Please do not send your child’s medication to the school without first contacting the school to inform them of the situation.

INCLEMENT WEATHER AND BUSES – IMPORTANT REMINDER: The Transportation Department is no longer sending out messages to parents via phone to notify families when a bus is cancelled due to inclement weather. This year, families and staff have two ways of knowing if a bus is cancelled, starting at approximately 6:30 in the morning. Eramosa PS is in the BLUE CARD DIVISION 2.

#1. Visit www.stwdsts.ca (You can visit the site earlier and subscribe for an email notification.)

#2. Visit the Transportation Twitter feed @stwdsts.

NO BUS Days – This is a reminder that when it is announced that Eramosa PS is having a ‘No Bus’ day, our school will be OPEN to students. It is certainly up to parents/guardians to decide whether it is safe to get their child(ren) to school. When the buses are cancelled and do not run in the morning, they will not run in the afternoon. Parents are responsible for transportation to and from school if they choose to have their child(ren) attend on a bus cancellation day.

As in the past, announcements will be made early and often in the morning on the radio, on the Transportation website (http://www.stwdsts.ca/) and Board website (www.ugdsb.on.ca) about any transportation cancellations. Eramosa PS is in Division 2, the Blue Card.

Stay Warm!
