The International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP) class of 2021 at Guelph Collegiate Vocational Institute have, once again, exceeded the IB world average and scored impressive results. The highest possible score for an IB Diploma is 45 points. The GCVI IB class average this year was 36.2 points compared to the world average of 33.02 points.

In its four years offering the IB Diploma, GCVI’s average has consistently been above the world average.

This year, three students earned an impressive 44 points, with 1/3 of the cohort earning 40 points or more.

In addition to these admirable results, the IB students were also leaders throughout the two-year program, having an impact on local and global issues. Some initiatives led by the GCVI IB students include the GCVI blood drive, the GCVI Terry Fox Run, a community park cleanup, a Ramadan Awareness campaign and the launching of a girls coding YouTube channel. The GCVI IB students also held executive positions on school clubs such as Student Senate, the Black Student Union and Alliance, DECA, the Athletic Council, Acts of Random Kindness and the Social Justice Club.

The success of the IB students and admirable results reflect the dedication of the IB staff and students at GCVI. With the support of staff, the IB cohort persevered through this challenging year and embraced the demands presented by the rigor of the IB DP.
