Welcome Back Message August 30th
Dear GVDPS families,
The Grand Valley and District Public School Staff are excited to welcome back our students after what we hope was a relaxing summer holiday for all of you.
Our messenger system has been down for the last several days, so this will be a bit late coming to you. We will continue to provide updates throughout the week ahead to ensure that everyone has the information they will need to for a comfortable start to the school year.
Our first day of school will be Tuesday, September 7th. Students need only arrive to our school yard entry points and staff will be available to direct them and help them get oriented. Details around drop off and pick up locations will be shared later this week. Our school day starts at 8:40am and finishes at 3:00pm. We ask that students do not arrive prior to 8:25 am.
Students will not have advance notice of classroom teacher placements, and will be directed to their classroom teacher on arrival on September 7th.
Many of you will be wondering what school might look like this year. Please take a moment to read through the details below, which should help to answer some of your questions.
Please use this link to visit our UGDSB parent information website for COVID updates and return to school details:
Masks are to be worn in the classroom and hallways of the school. Masks can be removed during outdoor recess times. Social distancing is encouraged at all times. Hand hygiene stations will be available at each entrance and in each classroom.
Families must do self screening each day prior to coming to school. Please use this screening tool each morning:
While our playground structures will be available for students during recess, they are closed on arrival each morning. This is due to potentially slippery surfaces from moisture, and supervision considerations.
Access to school:
Only essential visitors are permitted in the school until further notice. It is our hope that this restriction will not be in place for an extended time. For now, that means only students, board staff, and essential outside agencies will have access to the building until further notice. We hope to be able to welcome parents and volunteers into our building once again in the near future.
You will likely have noticed a great deal of work being done in and around the school this summer. Several of our classrooms, and washroom areas have undergone improvements and upgrades over the summer as well as certain areas of our exterior grounds. While the work is still ongoing today, we will have everything ready for students and staff to begin school according to schedule. Some minor trim work and exterior upgrades may continue in September until completion, but will not interfere with our day to day classroom and building operations.
Please continue to consult our school and board websites for regular updates and information, or reach out by phone to 519 928 2172.
Full details regarding procedures for the first day of school and first week routines will be sent home to families later this week. We are very excited to have the opportunity to connect with students through “in-person” learning once again this September.
With our warmest regards,
