Dear Parents and Guardians,


In light of the Ministry of Education’s announcement that schools will be closed for the remainder of the 2019-2020 school year, Harris Mill PS has developed a plan for families to retrieve the personal items belonging to students (i.e., shoes, medications, pencil cases, etc.) and to return materials belonging to the school.  Technology will be collected at a later date.  More information will be posted on the school website.  



  • June 4th – Following the procedure below, parents/guardians can come to the school during their assigned time block to pick up items belonging to their child(ren)


Schedule for June 4th:

  • Please arrive at the time listed with the first initial of your child’s LAST NAME:


A-B 8:30am-9:00am
C-D 9:00am-9:30am
E-G 9:30am-10:00am
H-J 10:00am-10:30am
K-L 10:30am-11:00am
M 11:00am-12:00pm
N-Q 12:00pm-12:30pm
R 12:30pm-1:00pm
S-T 1:00pm-1:30pm
U-Y 1:30pm-2:00pm


Please note: As we will be following social distancing practices, you may need to wait in line. Please be sure to observe the 2m social distancing regulation at all times.


The Following Procedure will be followed by Parents/Guardians when picking up items:

  • Send only one adult per family; prior to arriving, please complete the COVID-19 Self-Assessment
    • If you are exhibiting symptoms, have travelled outside of Canada in the past 14 days, or if you have been in contact with a confirmed case, please do not come to the school
  • Arrive at the school during your allotted time block.  Children are not permitted to be on school property at this time.
  • You may ask another adult to pick up your child’s items; please complete the Permission for Alternate Parent Pick up Form
  • Park in the parking lot  (while observing social distancing).  To allow for everyone to park please leave the parking lot immediately after exiting the school
  • Line up in the designated area while observing social distancing.
  • When you get to the front of the line (at the entrance doors), there will be a staff member who will greet you and ask for your child’s  last name
    • If you have items belonging to the school (i.e., textbooks, library books, home reading books), there will be a bin at the front of the line for you to leave these materials
    • When returning materials, please place belongings you are returning to the school in a sealed Ziploc Baggie with your child’s name and teacher name clearly labeled on the baggie
    • There will be a bin available for library books.  Library books may go directly into that bin; however, they will not require a ziplock bag
    • Please inform the staff member at the front door if you have to pick up medication for your child and you will be directed to the office
  • When you enter the building please stay to the right.  You will be directed by staff members.
  • Staff members will have already pre-organized your child’s items into labelled plastic bags; the plastic bag(s) for your child(ren) will be lined up outside your child’s class.  
  • Unidentified objects from that class will be placed above the hooks on the racks.
  • There will not be access to classrooms. 
  • Please pick up the bag(s) belonging to your child(ren), if you have children in multiple classes please look to the staff member to direct you to the route that you should take to that class
  • After collecting belongings, proceed directly to your vehicle 


Important Notes:

  • Access will be prohibited to anyone exhibiting symptoms of COVID-19, to anyone who has travelled outside of Canada in the past 14 days, or to anyone has had close contact with a confirmed case
  • You may wear your own mask or gloves; however, these will not be provided
  • Please observe social distancing at all times (by standing 6 feet apart) -remain on the spots marked with an X until the X ahead of you has cleared
  • Students are not  permitted on school grounds at this time
  • Your child’s belongings will already be gathered in a labelled plastic bag; please do not bring your own bags or containers
  • This time is designated for the pickup of student’s personal items and the return of school materials only; no meetings with staff or other activities are permitted at this time
  • There will be no access to classrooms or washrooms
  • There will be no outdoor supervision; and the playground and yard are closed
  • Please do not bring pets
