Staff Book Club Reflection

Posted October 2, 2021

A group of Harris Mill staff members participated in a book club last spring facilitated by our school’s Equity Committee.   The book club read “The Skin We’re In” by Desmond Cole. Please see our staff reflections below:

Reading The Skin We’re In and participating in our school’s book club was a very valuable experience.  The book hooked us from the start as we explored the realities that many Canadian BIPOC face.  We were shocked and saddened to read so many stories of racism and oppression right here in modern-day Canada.  As a society, we need to look closely at our beliefs, biases, and actions, and seek change for a more just society.

If you are interested in reading this book, please contact the school to borrow a copy.
