Important Life Threatening Allergy Information for All Families

September 2021

Dear Parents & Guardians,

We have children in our school with potentially life-threatening (allergy/allergies) to peanuts, shellfish, fish, seafood, tapioca, kiwi, all nuts and tree nuts called anaphylaxis (ana-fill-axis). This is a medical condition that causes a severe reaction to foods or other materials, and can cause death within minutes. In recent years, anaphylaxis has increased dramatically among students.

It is also important to note that we have many students attending Hyland Heights with asthma management plans. Several of these students have sensitivities to fragrances and common aerosol products such as body sprays. We strive to maintain a “scent-free” environment to support student health and well-being.

Although this may not affect your child’s class directly, we are letting you know so that you may refrain from sending foods to school that contain peanuts, shellfish, fish, seafood, tapioca, kiwi, all nuts and tree nuts  as well as other potential allergens. We aim to create an allergy-safe environment at Hyland Heights ES.

Our school has procedures in place for the prevention and management of anaphylactic reactions. If your child has health concerns of any kind, please call the office and we will provide you with a plan of care to complete for your child.

Thank you for your understanding in ensuring an allergy-safe environment for all our students.

Sincerely,

K. Martin, Principal

A .Papavasiliou, Vice Principal
