Hyland Heights News for October 15th

Posted October 15, 2021

Good evening,

We have a good week here at Hyland Heights. Today it was neat to see all of our kids in their school colours and/or spirit wear. We let our Hawk Pride shine bright!

School Photo Retake Day will be on Wednesday November 3, 2021.  All students that were absent on our original photo day will have an opportunity to have their photo taken.  If your child has already had a photo taken and you feel that it does need to be retaken please contact your child’s classroom teacher by Thursday October 28, 2021.  Only children that have had parental/guardian requests for a retake will be invited to get a second photo taken.

Please call the office and update your email address if it has changed, Progress reports will be available online this fall, and the school needs to have a correct email address so that parents/guardians can access the report cards.

A reminder that IEPs will be going home with all students who currently have one here at Hyland Heights on Tuesday, October 19th. Please read the IEP, make edits if you wish, and be sure to send the parent consultation page back signed. Any questions, please reach out to your child’s teacher.

The month of October is Islamic Awareness month which was officially established by the Canadian government in 2007. Islamic Heritage Month is a great opportunity to learn about the rich history of Islam, the vast diversity within Islam, and to break down stereotypes and beliefs that interrupt our goals of inclusion. Islamophobia is defined as the fear, hatred and prejudice toward Muslims and Islam more generally.

We also want to remind parents that Friday, October 29th is a PD in the UGDSB. This is not a school day for students. Staff however will be busy engaging in professional development about numeracy and literacy and completing progress reports.

On Thursday, October 28th, we will be having an orange and black spirit day here at Hyland Heights. We can’t be sharing candy/drinks/treats, so this means no class treats are to be brought in.

We invite you to check out our school website: https://www.ugdsb.ca/hylandheights/ . You can find helpful information there.

A few reminders as we head into the weekend.

-Each child and staff member must complete the self-screening tool: https://covid-19.ontario.ca/school-screening/ Please do not send your child to school if they do not pass the screening and follow the advice that is given when you receive your child’s self-screening results.

-Students and staff are required to wear masks indoors. Gaiters, scarves, neck warmers, or balaclavas cannot be substituted or used in place of cloth masks and/or medical masks. Face masks must be two layers and have ear loops. More information is available on the WDG Public Health website.

Have a great weekend. We’ll see everyone back on Monday.
