Good evening Hawk Families, ,

It’s been another fantastic week at Hyland and we’re looking forward  to another great day on Friday. On Monday, we recognized Autism Awareness Day. Our students and staff looked awesome in their blue and red while raising awareness.   Our school spirit days continue:

Our school council met virtually this week. Hyland Heights School Council is still seeking a pizza coordinator. Our next School Council meeting will be May 2nd at 6pm.

EQAO has been scheduled at our school. Grade threes will be writing May 16th to May 20th and the grades sixes will be writing from May 8th to May 13th. More information will be coming as we get closer to the writing dates.

Please see our school Twitter account for more information and updates: @HylandHawks . A few of our highlights include: Hyland Heights reads is getting exciting with our voting date getting close, Manie Musicale concluded with winners being announced today at school, various eco initiatives continue including a yard clean up by the grade 4/5s,  we continue to learn about Ramadan with daily announcements and a front foyer display, and our multi faith prayer room is open.

A reminder that there will be no school on April 15th and 18th for Good Friday and Easter Monday. We want to wish all of our families who celebrate Easter, a happy one.

The Ministry provides  COVID-19 guidance, the best and most current information is embedded within the screening tool. The tool also accounts for individuals who tested positive in the last 90 days, who have traveled etc. COVID 19 School Screening

Highlights to current changes:

Masking is now no longer required, but encouraged by the UGDSB. There are exceptions  for a few specific circumstances. Please ensure that your child wears a mask if they fall into the following groups:

  • For 6-10 days after a self-isolation period of five days after having COVID-19
  • If you are identified as a close contact of someone with COVID-19
  • In public spaces, including schools and child cares, for the first 14 days

While masking continues to be strongly encouraged for indoor spaces, it will now be a personal, family, decision and we will work to ensure that all students, staff, and parents/guardians  respect the decisions of others to either wear a mask or to go without one.

Please continue to use the COVID Screening tool daily before your child attends school https://covid-19.ontario.ca/school-screening/ . It will continue to be important for students with illness of any kind to remain home while they have symptoms.

Have a great evening.
