ILPS Student Walk Out April 4

Posted April 4, 2019

On Thursday April 4, a group of Island Lake P.S. students walked out of class as part of a provincial student walkout organized in response to education changes made by the Ontario government. Please note that these walkouts were not school or board sanctioned events.

The students were out of class from 1:15pm.  They were supervised as they sat outside on the sidewalk at the front doors of the school.

We wanted to make you aware of the school’s procedures when a student walkout occurs. School and classes continue on their normal schedule. For safety reasons, elementary students are not to leave the school property during a walkout without parental permission. Regular attendance procedures are followed if a student leaves school property.

In the coming months, there may be additional walkouts planned. We will continue to support our students’ desire to express their views and will also encourage students to show their support in ways that do not interrupt learning in the classroom.

If you have any questions, please call the school.
