Principal and Vice-Principal’s Message – April 2019 Newsletter

Dear Parents and Guardians,

Thank you for your patience.  We have been holding off on writing our April Newsletter until we received our tentative class information from the Board for next year.  Please see the details below.

Thank you to all of our families for their participation in the Dance-a-thon this year—we appreciated all of the support for our Scientist in the School program!  Congrats to Mackenzie M. who will be our Principal for an afternoon and all of the students for their participation!

Parents and guardians, please monitor the changing weather at this time of year and encourage the children to dress in layers.  Please label all items of clothing to reduce the number of items in the lost and found box.  The BAG 2 SCHOOL clothing drive continues to be very successful – thank you for your participation and many thanks to Mrs. Hughson for organizing the event.

Grandpals and The Wise Ones at ILPS!

The purpose of these intergenerational programs is to foster cooperation, understanding and friendship between the generations. The program impacts  youth’s attitudes towards aging and understanding the past.  It also promotes feelings of life-satisfaction and self-worth for the older adult. We are very pleased to have our Wise Ones visit us once a week to participate with the Grade 8’s in conversation and learning.  One of our grade 5 classes goes to the Lord Dufferin Centre to visit their Grandpals.  Thank you to Mrs. Hughson, Mrs. Miller and Mrs. Manzerolle.

Question for the Principal

Question: How does staff decide which class to place my child in?

Answer: When school staff draft class lists, a  variety of factors are taken into consideration. Some of them are as follows:

  • Total number of students (must meet Ministry and contractual guidelines)
  • Balance of female/male students
  • Balance of abilities
  • Number of students identified with special needs
  • Combinations of students (positive and challenging)
  • Formation of interactive learning groups
  • Teacher experience
  • Parent requests

If parents/guardians wish to make a request for a particular class, it must be supported by specific and detailed reasons and must be sent by email to the Principal’s email address:   [email protected]

Our deadline for requests to be emailed to the Principal is FRIDAY, MAY 24, 2019.

 email address:   [email protected]

Another email reminder will go out in May.  The request must specify the reason for the request.  We will make every effort to honour parent requests, but please realize that we cannot guarantee that requests will be met, due to the number of variables involved in student placement.
