ILPS -Jan 2020 – School Newsletter

Posted January 10, 2020

Dear Parents and Guardians,

Welcome to a brand new decade!!!  We are looking forward to seeing amazing things from our ILPS Ospreys over the next 10 years.   We have had a smooth start to 2020 and wish all of our families a happy and healthy new year.

Labour Updates———————————————————————–

Please check the board Labour Relations Page at https://www.ugdsb.ca/board/labour-relations/  for updates.  As of Jan 13, 2020, the ETFO will be moving into Phase 3 of work to rule job action.  As a result, previously scheduled field trips will have to be cancelled.  Please look for letters coming home detailing the cancellations.  Parents and Guardians can also check our calendar on the school website to view any cancellations.

Inclement Weather——————————————————————–

Winter has come. There will likely be more snow and chilly temperatures forecasted over the next months.  We remind families to ensure that students come to school with the proper layers for recesses and footwear—indoor and outdoor.

For bus students, remember to check local  stations such as 680 CFTR  AM, 1460 CJOY AM or 98.1 CHFI FM if concerned about the weather.

Also check the Transportation website www.stwdsts.ca for bus cancellation information. Even if buses are not running, we do expect walkers to be at school as we carry on with academic programs on inclement weather days.

A REMINDER FOR ALL VISITORS————————————————–

Safe School Procedures

To all visitors to our school, please check in at the office whenever you are visiting the school during instructional time (8:45am to 3:15pm) or when dropping off/picking up students after/before the bell. Late students must be signed in at the office before heading to class. It is important that all visitors sign in for both security and safety reasons.  Visitors will be given a visitor badge after sign in so that students and staff know you are allowed to be in the school.

Thank you for your cooperation.

BAG 2 SCHOOL Fundraiser——————————————————

Did you know that the textile industry is the second greatest polluting industry in the world after only oil? Currently 85% of textile waste is disposed of in landfill, yet it is almost 100% recyclable.

ILPS is once again participating in a Bag2School fundraiser. This clothing drive will be held from January 6 – January 24 in the hallway in front of the LLC. Please donate any unwanted clothing, including: hats, belts, purses, footwear (tied in pairs please) and clean soft/stuffed toys.

By getting involved with this clothing collection you are helping raise funds for the Ecoteam to purchase garden tools, as well as helping the environment by diverting unwanted textiles away from land fill sites. In addition, this fundraiser helps raise the students’ awareness of the benefits of the 3 “R’s”—Reuse, Recycle and Reduce.

Thanks for your help with our fundraiser.
