Sept 3 2020- ILPS Parent Update

Posted September 3, 2020

Dear Parents and Guardians,
We are getting closer to our school startup and our plans are coming together very nicely. We have processes in place for a smooth re-entry back to school after a long time away. We are looking forward to having students in the building again! Please see some updates below. Please see the attached PDF for live links to the websites.

Remote Student Info:
Please see the board website for more information about the Elementary Remote School at https://www.ugdsb.ca/community/coronavirus/reopening-schools-plan/staggered-entry-information/
Phone Calls- Sept 9 and 10:
Please expect a welcome phone call from your child’s assigned In-School teacher next Tues or Wed. to share/confirm class placement and other information important to our Sept Startup procedures. Remote teachers will be contacting parents throughout that week.
Class Placements:
There has had to be a reorganization of all of the classes across the Board to accommodate the numbers of students registered for remote classes. Students have been placed in classes based on curricular support requirements. Class Cohort groupings have been created by the Board in case we need to move from the Conventional model to the Adapted model. These Cohorts cannot be changed at this time. We have placed all students from the same address (twins/triplets) in the same classroom to minimize their contacts.
Please note that Parent Requests for class placements may not have been honoured due to these factors.
Chromebook Returns:
Students who have borrowed a chromebook for use at the end of the last school year are asked to:
– Use masking tape to label the chromebook with their first and last name
– Bring it to school in their backpack with the Charging Cord on the first day they attend
– Place it in their homeroom to be cleaned and recorded as returned
If students are on Remote Learning, they can keep their chromebook. If you require a chromebook for Remote Learning, please email Ms. Robertson to arrange for pickup.
Managing Students with Covid Symptoms (from Public Health):
Please see Public Health flow charts below re: managing symptoms and cases of COVID in schools – this is the protocol that our Board will follow – Information is also posted on the board website

Hope you have a safe and happy Labour Day weekend.
Sincerely,
Sean Singh
Principal
Island Lake Public School
