On Monday October 21, 2019, a class of Grade 8 students from JD Hogarth Public School in Fergus had an opportunity to give back to their community… and do some math at the same time.
The Fergus branch of Meridian Credit Union generously donated $1000 for the students to purchase food for the local Food Bank. In groups of 2 or 3 students, the class had the task of spending as close to $100 per group as they could. Students were responsible for figuring out which items were taxed, calculating the taxes, and adding their subtotals before cashing out.
With the help of local OPP and Fire services, all of the food was delivered to the Centre Wellington Food Bank.
