Grade 8 Trip Cancelled

Posted March 27, 2020

Dear Grade 8 Parents and Students,

We are writing to all our Grade 8 families with respect to our year end trip to Toronto.  Due to the ongoing situation with COVID-19, and out of concern for the health and safety of staff and students, the Upper Grand District School Board has made the decision to cancel all overnight school trips for the remainder of the 2019-2020 school year. With this being said, the Grade 8 trip that was scheduled from June 17 to 19 has unfortunately been cancelled.

At this time, we have been in contact with our tour operator, Brightspark, to begin the reimbursement of funds process. Brightspark has informed us that they will initiate refunds where applicable. In addition, to streamline the insurance claim procedure, Brightspark will be submitting on behalf of JD Hogarth P.S. an entire package to the insurance claims department.  As a result, parents will not have to call to make a claim.  Parents will be receiving a document directly from the insurance company that they will have to sign and return (all via email).

The insurance company is doing their best to process the claim documents as quickly as possible and have estimated a 8-12 week time frame to complete the entire procedure.

Although this information may create a feeling of disappointment and sadness, at JD our primary concern is the safety and well-being of everyone. We will continue to maintain a connection with our students to support each other through these challenging times.

Thanking you all in advance for your understanding and support.
