EJPS Week at a Glance (Jan 30 – Feb 3)

Chers parents,

February is actually here! Where has the time gone? This week will be the start to some exciting learning for our students. Throughout the month of February our teachers will weave learning and make connections in their lessons that relate to Black Heritage, Brilliance, and Future’s Month. We will have announcements in the morning and visuals throughout the school to celebrate the accomplishments of Black Canadians and other Black individuals from around the world.  We will also focus on children’s mental health this month. To that end, EJ School Council has put aside some funds as done in past years for arts education and hands-on learning enhancements. This year we will engage in an active music program – Bucket Drumming sessions for all of our students during the month of February. We will be connecting our drumming sessions to the 4Ms of Mental Health:  Movement, Mindfulness, Mastery of something new, and Making connections. The facilitators will be local professional musicians, Adam Bowman, and yours truly!

Mr. Bowman will do 5 sessions with the Grade 2\3, 3, 3\4, 4, 5, 5\6, and 6 classes. In order to pay for this program, EJPS Council is subsidizing the program within their budget and we are asking parents to pay $10 for their child to participate. That’s $2 per drumming session. A blue form and school cash online payment information will be coming home on Monday to all those students working with Mr. Bowman on the following dates: Mon Jan 30th, Mon Feb 6, Mon Feb 13, Mon Feb 27, Mon March 6. For the rest of our students, I will have the privilege to take time out of my schedule to do several bucket drumming sessions over the next few weeks with KA, KB, KC, 1A, 1/2B, 1\2C, & 2A . There will be no cost for the students I will be working with to participate.

Below are some important dates:

  • Feb 2 – National Sweater Day (we will be participating as an EcoSchool)
  • Feb 3 – Police Presentations Gr 2,3,4,5 (*letters to be sent via email prior to)
  • Feb 16 – Term 1 Report Cards available online

Lastly, I wanted to share the good news about our newest permanent staff member. We are so pleased to have EA, Trisha Dokis, join our team. She comes with great skills and experience gained at a variety of schools and settings such as CCVI and the Portage program. She has already settled in very nicely and is making strong and positive connections with students and staff through her kind and sunny ways.

Have a great weekend!

Sincerely,

Olivier Cutz (Principal)
