The EDI committee (Elevation, Disruption, Implementation) of King George School Council with support from GNSC are thrilled to invite King George Parents and Guardians to a series of training workshops:
A supportive approach to anti-oppression and community resilience ~with Kevin Sutton
Things that will be covered in the series:
- Scratching the surface of systemic oppression
- Approaching the work: human-rights-oriented, consent-based, and trauma-informed
- Asking what does it mean to be a supportive community member/professional?
- Unpacking our bias, assumptions, and resistance to difference
- Making mistakes, being accountable, and recovering relationships
- Building emotional resilience skills and managing behaviour change
- Establishing a practice of being a supportive community member/professionalAll King George Parents/Guardians welcome to these dates (but cannot come to the 2nd or 3rd Training if they have missed the previous ones, as we will be building on the work of the previous workshop)

Kevin Sutton is a writer, spoken word performance artist, workshop facilitator, communications professional, and community organizer. They are a co-founder of Black Lives Matter Guelph and host The Great Pause on CFRU 93.3. Their work with at-risk youth has led them to diversity, equity, and inclusion work helping organizations nurture supportive professional environments where everyone is treated with dignity and respect. They are the GNSC Community Resilience Facilitator with the GNSC.
The February theme for the Umbrella Project is Healthy Lifestyles.
